Feel the pride of accomplishment when you make your own shop tools. In this class you will be shown how to turn your own hand tools including a traditional mallet, a weighted carver's mallet, a handled center punch and various scratch and bird cage awls. Students will be able to choose the tools they wish to make by turning with spindle (between centers) turning techniques. The student should be able to complete a minimum of three and up to six of the tools demonstrated by the instructor - dependent on the skill and experience of the student. Tools: A set of basic spindle tools is all that is required for this class such as a spindle roughing gouge, parting tool, spindle gouge(s) and a skew (optional). Students are encouraged to bring the tools with which they are comfortable with. Otherwise, the studio and the instructor will be able to provide the needed tools.
